From the Washington Post:
“The evidence we have today indicated we have been deceived and betrayed for a number of years by a highly respected and trusted individual,” said Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), the NRCC chairman.
Could it be? Are Republicans finally catching on to George W. Bush?
Sadly, no:
The former treasurer for the National Republican Congressional Committee diverted hundreds of thousands of dollars — and possibly as much as $1 million — of the organization’s funds into his personal accounts, GOP officials said yesterday, describing an alleged scheme that could become one of the largest political frauds in recent history.
For at least four years, Christopher J. Ward, who is under investigation by the FBI, allegedly used wire transfers to funnel money out of NRCC coffers and into other political committee accounts he controlled as treasurer, NRCC leaders and lawyers said in their first public statement since they turned the matter over to the FBI six weeks ago.
Hey, over in the Republican Party, this is known as “an entrepreneurial spirit.”

IF what you say about Mr. Ward is true, (because anybody can be ‘charged’ with ANY crime in this day and age, ref: “the big lie”)
why are we worried about a measly $1 million? this guy is a piker.
(see Pat Hingle’s character, Boss Pendergast, in the movie ‘Truman.’ – “TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS? Is that what all this yellin’ is about?”)
dad told me to never steal SMALL amounts of money. ain’t worth the bother.
$1 million petty theft? that’s bullshit. now $20 billion? well, THAT we can at least talk about; what your plan?
if the crime i gonna do deserves jail time, i at least gonna steal enuff to buy me a legal firm and a few judges (like some female hotel heiress i’ve read about, let alone a sheriff or two,) and have plenty leftover stashed away for when i get out in 3 months at a country club prison farm for a little revenge…
and georgie boy throws away $12 billion a month along with the body parts and lives of soldiers for some screwy scheme overseas, and we sit here talikg about AT MOST $1 million??? and nobody hurt/dead?
what’s next? charging a (then) 7 year-old member of the hitler youth with war crimes JUST BECAUSE he’s the very last ‘nazi’ left alive you can positively identify?
oh, please. while i can understand ‘outrage’ about crime at perhaps at any level, a little focus of priorities would be nice.
get the big fish first. spend your time/effort and money there.
and by the way, after 6 1/2 years and trillions of $ and thousands dead, where is Mr. Osama?
why does this country fail to hold elected leaders account for NOT SOLVING THE BIG STUFF?
