Let him who is without sin cast the first stone, is what I say.

You're right, though -- at some point, we actually have to do the thing we've been learning to do. But if you're any good, your education doesn't end when your actual practice begins. After he's worked on a few buildings, a good bricklayer should know things about bricklaying that nobody ever taught him. At some point, he should have enough confidence in his training and his own experience to try out innovations, and enough humility to know when a promising new idea isn't working.

I don't know what proportion of bricklayers are really passionate about bricklaying, but a really devoted bricklayer at the end of a long career should think, "You know, I was really starting to get the hang of this."

I think we've got a mindset that there's a point where we stop learning and start doing, but the world isn't that simple. You can't learn all there is to know about any subject worth thinking about. We should always proceed with a certain humility about the limits of our knowledge, and a mind open to learning more.

Eventually the baker must cut the cake, and the bricklayer must cast a stone.

als ich ein Kind war, some german guy said if you stare at the void for too long, then you risk becoming that which you have been staring at.

"I don’t believe voters were hoping for the timid, corporate-interests-first policies that too many Congressional Democrats seem to be embracing right now."

You would be correct in your belief. That's not what I cast my vote for.

Just the other day we see the headline, "Mattel wins exemption from independent toy safety tests". Those toy safety tests were put in BECAUSE of Mattel's behaviors with regard to selling lead-tainted toys from China. Unfortunately, the laws were watered down enough to allow for companies to police themselves under an exemption--and it turns out that Mattel was the FIRST to get such an exemption.

It's almost as if Mattel wrote the law. Nah, that'd never happen....

I read this and I had to check my watch, then look at a calendar, then call the time and temperature lady. I *thought* it was the summer of 2009, but obviously I was wrong.

On top of that comes word that the Deparment of Homeland Security (oh, George Orwell is turning in his grave, possibly laughing his fool head off) has declared that they unanimously can take your laptop computer from you, and you have nothing to say about it. And here I thought Dick Cheney was no longer anywhere near the seat of power anymore. Again, clearly I was wrong.

These all exmplify why the Dems have had such a problem over the last several years. They are incompetent. Even when the world was handed to them on a plate, they manage to drop the plate and spill the contents.

The electorate wants them to do their jobs, and what the electorate elected them to do. The electorate does NOT want to wipe their noses and tell them to get a jacket, it's cold outside.

JFK Inaugural Address, Jan 20, 1961:

"And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"

Mister Obama seems to have reversed the concept.

Everyone was talking about 'change' during the campaign, but no one was able to put their finger on what exactly was going to change. Now, after six months, the picture is beginning to clarify, and some people are skeptical.

A person's vote is an expression of their political opinion, just as an editorial on a blog expresses the author's political mood at the time of it's posting.

In this manner you vote every time you post your opinion, and I am assuming that your comment would be categorized as sarcasm.

Please make a mental note to update this subject every six months.

Who are the religious zealots? The Taliban, or Americans with some déclassé concerns not shared by the hipters in the big city?

No! I don't think Dave was thinking of Jack Kerouac when he wrote 'Master Jack'.
I believe he was thinking of his underground foreman in the mine at Witbank, in South Africa. But you could ask him! Contact him through Third Ear Music, at thirdear@iafrica.com
Good luck! Ndlovu

The Dixie Chicks criticized Bush the Lessor in 2003, before it was popular. They risked much to shine a light on the questionable behavior of the administration.

Political dissent is not the problem. The problem is 'excepting' an administration from criticism based on popular opinion polls and our own political agenda.

Your house is on fire. Guy goes, "Ahhh! My Child!" Guy goes, "I didn't start this fire." Child perishes. Fire spreads to entire neighborhood. Government nationalizes the fire insurance industry.
