my friend:

yes, seen your cartoon entry, complete.

YES, i have no doubt that Mr. McCain's 'war record' is both authentic and exempliary. the man has experienced things that i cannot imagine. credit where credit is due...

BUT ALSO YES:
same war record in itself does not necessarily make for good qualifications as a chief executive. keep in mind that perhaps there are lingering ghosts from that time, a'la PTSS... which could be a factor in judgement calls by someone who is called upon to make decisions on a 'now' basis...

Even a good war horse can be driven into the ground, rode too long.

which might be the case here.

at the very least, i think Mr. McCain needs to leave the issue alone, let it speak for itself to those that deem it significant.

one can brag too much about survivng past bad news.

my dad was a warrior, too. he seen lotsa bad shitty stuff in the 1940's. I KNOW it had 'some' effect on him. in point of fact, he admited same to me once.

i have an elderly lady relative that 'survived' cancer in the late 1960's. at the cost of variety body parts. 40 YEARS AGO.

She is known far and wide for telling and re-telling same 'survival' story at ANY group event, LONG having rode her own sad story horse into the ground. people tend to avoid her, when possible. don't wanna hear about it again... and again... and again... and again...

I didn't say you did.

It's not a problem to disagree with me in comments -- that's part of the reason for the whole reader comment system. It's okay to disagree vigorously, or even angrily. But those who turn disagreement on facts, issues or opinions into personal attacks on the people with whom they disagree, or who start with personal animosity and use substantive disagreement as an excuse to vent that animosity -- those people will have to find another venue for that kind of expression.

So. You have finally come out in favor of dirty tricks.

Give you a little attention and some audacity of hope, and a piece of string, some wax paper and a comb, and you have turned Obama into Richard Nixon with the dexterity of the lead character in the best MacGuyver episodes.

It wouldn't make good TV if it didn't have conflict.

And you said in the past that you would vote for Rudy Giuliani if Obama wasn't nominated.

Either you have multiple personalities or very little personal integrity. And I'm pretty sure that at least one of your personalities consider women's rights to be nothing more than a cafe issue.

Who calls women 'sweetie' in 2008?

Man, have you become lame and transparent.

A couple of months ago you were praising Ronald Reagan when Obama praised Reagan. Now, you are claiming that only democrats can save us from the apocalypse.

Lincoln did a fair job a while back and I don't think he was a democrat.

You remind me of that cluster of hippies that voted for Ralph Nader in 2000.

I'm pretty sure that if Obama was an Independent, you would be busy writing operas for the Independent Party.

Ha Ha ha ha hah.

Never under-estimate the old man.

The contrast in tone is an intentional campaign decision and an example of the 'change' that John McCain will be presenting to the voters.

While the enthusiasm of the democrats has reached a zenith and will level off, Senator McCain is presenting himself as the grass roots underdog insurgent and he has left himself room to show a growing interest in his message. (I am so poor and humble, how can I ever compete with the mighty Goliath of the Democratic Party?)

I can't believe that I am the only pundit who can see the gathering storm of this strategy.

I think Olbermann started out okay. As a commentator who didn't swallow all the Bush talking points, he was a breath of fresh air on cable news operations practically monopolized by right-wing talkers.

His straight talk got him an audience of Democrats starved to hear a friendly voice, and I think Olbermann decided to be Bill O'Reilly for Democrats.

He doesn't play fair anymore. A year or two ago, CBS was threatening to sue Howard Stern when he moved from CBS radio to satellite radio. Olbermann had some supposed legal expert on the show and asked him leading questions, clearly seeking confirmation of his own view that CBS didn't have a case. The expert disagreed, and said CBS had a strong case. Olbermann seemed to rush through the rest of the interview. The next day he had a different supposed legal expert. Olbermann asked the same kind of leading questions, but this time the expert agreed with Keith's conclusions.

He's not the kind of partisan hack who says the Democrats can do no wrong, but on his show, it seems the Republicans can do no right. It's also been obvious for a while that Olbermann's been tilting toward Obama. I'm an Obama supporter, and I think Olbermann has been unfair to Clinton recently, but he was more than fair to her when she looked like a sure winner.

Like O'Reilly, Olbermann seems to think it's all about himself. The quickest way to get on the nightly list of "Worst Persons in the World" is to criticise Olbermann or NBC -- particularly if you claim that his show's ratings are weak. (I don't expect to make the list for this comment, but only because this blog is too small for them to notice.)

I'd rather have an honest commentator who calls BS when he sees it from any politician. Olbermann is the kind of guy who can be embarrassing to have on your side.

Did you see Keith Olbermann's Special Comment after Senator Clinton referenced the death of Robert Kennedy?

I don't watch that show anymore, but I watched the Special Comment on the internets. It makes me ashamed that I used to like that program.

Remember the stirring episode mentioned below?

Rachel Sklar Column
Huffington Post
April 25th, 2008

[MsNBC's Keith]Olbermann was discussing the election with Newsweek's Howard Fineman, a frequent guest. They topic was, how can a winner finally be determined in this never-ending Democratic race for the nomination? Of course, the assumption was that it was Clinton that should be shown the door (despite clearly still earning her spot in the race thanks to, um, voters). Fineman said that, all the delegate math aside, ultimately it was going to take "some adults somewhere in the Democratic party to step in and stop this thing, like a referee in a fight that could go on for thirty rounds. Those are the super, super, super delegates who are going to have to decide this."

Said Olbermann: "Right. Somebody who can take her into a room and only he comes out."

my friend:
from inside my little cage, i say LET hillary have her last 2 weeks. not that i a big hillary person. but after all the bullshit so far what's 2 more weeks?
and then she'll have a couple months for some back-door manuvering because there still probably won't be a 'nominee' she has promised to support. which will be more fun and more churning for the press.

here's what i've learned: no matter who wins the election for president, I ALWAYS LOOSE. took me decades to figure that out, but then, i hard headed. but when i finally DO learn something, it's there forever.

the flap about 'assasination' is artificial. anyone elected to high office knows that's always possible...

allow me a moment of whimsy and quote Super Chicken: "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred."

"After almost eight years, I did not think I could be surprised about anything that George Bush says, but I was wrong," Obama said.
